Flickering Beauty - in grass !

LEARN ABOUT SNAKES & SNAKEBITE

There are different types of cat snakes - the Indian Gamma and the Ceylon cat snake.
The Indian Gamma (Boiga trigonata), which is also known as cat snake. It is a small snake. Its eyes are large with mustard yellow iris and vertical pupil. It is usually yellowish brown, sandy or fawn and is spotted with darker shades. Its belly is white and on its lateral side there are brown spots.
The Cat Snake is a nocturnal snake usually encountered on the move at night. In Indian Gamma coils itself in bushes into a little heap and does not stretch out its body as other snakes do. It is very common in evergreen and deciduous forests. It is an excellent climber and can jump from heights to the ground. If it is caught by the tail, it climbs up its own body and bites. When caught by the neck, it ejects an evil smelling stream of yellow and white secretion from its anal gland. This snake has fangs in the back of the mouth. The secretion that comes from its parotid gland is toxic and fatal to lizards and highly toxic to mice. It’s a very brave snake and acts very offensively on the least provocation. Its striking posture is characteristic. The head and fore-body are erected well off the ground and the latter thrown into a figure of eight loop, the head being poised in the middle. Prior to striking, the erected part is swayed forwards and backwards the whole body inflated and deflated and the tail vibrates briskly.
This Snake feeds on almost anything it can capture but has a strong liking for lizards, in particular the garden lizards. It kills small birds, mammals and lizards by constriction.

Cobra With Extended Hood

LEARN ABOUT SNAKES & SNAKEBITE

Indian cobra has black colour and brown as well, depending on the region of its origin. Cobras extend their hood as a weapon to warn its predators, in this way cobras extends its body to look bigger than the actual size to scare the opponent.
This cobra was rescued from a house. He was about to be crushed to death by the crowd of 300 people, if I was later by 30 seconds. Today, I released him in the wild.
I arrived on the scene on my tiny scooter and I could not believe the crowd, being Sunday. There were two cars from the Police and a fire tender from Fire Dept. I knew that they have hunted the snake and are about to kill, as I could hear some shouts and screams. I did a sort of crash landing with my scooter, as I did not want the snake to be dead. I shouted to stop them their action and told that I have arrived on the scene. Most of the Police personnel recognise me and gave me way to reach the snake. I could see clearly that it was a cobra sitting under stairs. After bagging the snake, I did a lecture to educate people about snakes and snakebite, which I consider more important than the rescue of the snake.

Common Krait

Its the dealiest Indian snake, 15 times more poisonous than a cobra! Very shy during the day and highly active at night. This is a very unusual photograph of a common krait. Usually, common krait hides its head under the coil of its own body, a typical behaviour of this snake only.

COPYRIGHTS ARE WITH CAPT SURESH
Rescued this snake from a village shop, people had beaten him a bit. But our mindless Chief Wildlife Warden warned me not to rescue snakes which are on the list of protected animals, wihtout prior permission - strange! Where is the time in emergency situation like this. I was quite shocked. Anyway, he is a branded mindless guy. I will continue my work.

Nature's Beauty!

Its a saw scaled viper found in arid zones and scrub jungles, rocky areas etc. This photo was done on our recent visit to Gandhinagar (Gujarat, India). What a beauty its has in its eyes, sexy! Like all beauties are to be admired from a distance, better, so is this beauty!
A small but extremely dangerous viper. It gets the name saw-scaled from rubbing the sides of its body together, producing a rasping sound. This ill-tempered snake will attack any intruder. Its venom is highly hemotoxic and quite potent. Many deaths are attributed to this species.

I found this amazing cobra with hair implant in India. It is to fool common man that this is an old cobra, if one makes any offerings, one gets blessed with long life. This snake charmer was seen at Pushkar Cattle Fair.
